IELTS: how does it work?

What is IELTS?

  • IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System,IELTS Pakistan operated by IDP IELTS and the British Council , and is designed to assess English language proficiency. IELTS scores are accepted in 140 countries, for educational and immigration purposes, and approximately 3.8 million people take the IELTS exam annually . The purpose of the IELTS exam is to test your communication skills, which is why the IELTS exam is divided into 4 parts – reading, speaking, writing and listening – and why 10,000 institutions around the world accept IELTS results in the application phase for university programs.

How many different types of exams are there?

  • The main division for the IELTS exam is between the Academic IELTS and the general IELTS training (there are two other types, which are not relevant here, one is for people who want to work for Transport for London, the other for family members applying for a visa to an English-speaking country). The Academic IELTS exam is designed for higher education candidates or people who are looking to get certified for business purposes. The general education IELTS exam is for applicants for secondary education, work experience, or immigration purposes. Both exams include the same IELTS speaking and listening parts, but the writing and reading parts are very different.How often and where can I take the exam?You will be relieved to hear that you can take the IELTS exam as many times as you want and that there are more than 800 centers offering it, located on every continent.The exam takes place 48 times a year, and to find your nearest IELTS test center , you should contact the British Council or Elab.
