Jagex has not made an announcement that addresses the decline in activity or OSRS Gold the steps taken to counter it. Jagex also has seemed to be a little off-base when it has made remarks about activity. Jagex CEO Mark Gehard stated, in July 2012 that there are “hundreds upon thousands of people playing simultaneously.” In a recent news article also stated that Runescape was now “as powerful as it’s ever been.” It’s possible that he’s right if he meant that more players have the power of 99 than they ever had before. If, however, his statement is referring to activities in the game it’s possible that he hasn’t been sleeping enough.
However, the game’s popularity is evidently declining. But let’s remember that Runescape was hugely popular several years back. The majority of people in middle school and high school during the mid 2000s would have walked through Tutorial Island at one time or another. However, many wouldn’t admit to it. It’s possible that Runescape has a temporary decline in its popularity, but it isn’t going away soon. It’s possible.
The people who make the case of Runescape’s coming death (many of which are also trying to discredit the game’s recent content) typically pull out the Google trend for Runescape.com as evidence. Here’s a link to it in case you’re not aware. By the way this graph could make things look worse than they are because it appears as if the game has no activity when it clearly has plenty.
On first glance, it appears as if the sport is dying and has been Buy RS Gold for a long time now. It’s pretty tough to argue with that. Since the peak (December 2006), Runescape has overall declined. In addition, similar games such as World of Warcraft have seen their activity drop. But even with this chart, there is some optimism for the game.
