“A great deal of credit goes to (Commissioner) Roger Goodell and mut coins madden 21 (VP of football operations) Troy Vincent for its feeling of urgency that has developed relating to this problem over the past 8-to-12 months.”
There is not anything to winner before we see the final results of these hunts, but it seems more than lip service is being paid to The Rooney Rule, and there’s a sense within the classes doing the hiring that the time for words is over — that this league has to be equitable in who gets to sit in places of power within the sport, and, ultimately, just the owners themselves may change this.
Knowledgeable coaches like Marvin Lewis and executives such as Rick Smith seem very poised at this stage to have a legitimate chance with multiple teams. There is expectation that 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy will have better luck this time around.
The team has become more aggressive, proactive and consistent with its messaging to groups about the requirement to alter how they’ve been doing business, and I have heard repeatedly from people doing the hiring, and those who represent lots of the top candidates, the nature of this cycle will in reality differ.
“I’ve never felt that a vibe like this earlier,” said one prominent representative. “I believe Goodell has put the hammer down and these teams are receiving the message.”
In the past Graves has broached the subject of pushing all hires back till after the Super Bowl to attempt to level the playing field to this in and outside of the match, providing the tampering rules that govern the sport. However, so many coaches and GMs being let go in-season this past year — creating a more robust cycle of interviews while games were still being played — is a dynamic that also could foster diversity.
“The ancient conclusions being made by owners, in an effort to get a head start, may become more of a trend moving ahead,” Graves said.
Obviously, this is not about one hiring cycle, or one blip. It is about a path correction in how owners think and operate. And Graves wants to expand the scope of the thinking into all aspects below the NFL’s umbrella: NFL Films, NFL Media, and all ventures of this type. He, and lots of more, wish to observe the same management-level opportunities supplied in these ventures also, and is already working on a presentation to this end for the spring meeting in March.
“This is something which requires a holistic approach,” Graves explained. “It’s about paring back the cover on the entire NFL umbrella and analyzing diversity as it pertains to other companies, and in certain cases it is much worse there than that which we’ve seen on the soccer side.”
They’ve not had a top-notch play caller since Kyle Shanahan left. Smith employs many of the same principles in his offense, and there is a growing buzz about him in Atlanta.
Also have been hearing Rick Smith as the cheap Madden nfl 21 coins guy to beat to their GM opening for quite some time, and nothing recently has shifted that sense one bit.
