Personal speculation: PSO2 is being ported to the NGS motor to keep players occupied between NGS content releases. No new content will be published to it outside of cosmetics, of which will be obtained/ported out of NGS events/scratches to have people to perform that. It is going to be removed after a few years after all of the players have migrated over and the PSO2 Meseta only people in the PSO2 blocks are diehards holdouts/nostalgia. Probably. It’s a brand new game so chances are similar to any Online RPG the initial release will not have much about an endgame for those players who hit maximum level on day 1. It will be nice to just switch blocks anytime I want struck up an old UQ though. There’s never a reason not to see magatsu.
Great FAQ, answers a lot of my first doubts.
Gosh, this looks so complex. On the 1 hand, kudos for maintaining the original game intact so that there will not be a riot over changes people do not like. However on the other hand, since they’re remaking base PSO2 visuals anyway, I wish they’d just go 100% and synchronize character models entirely. Giving old players some free fashion items and unlocks will be sufficient to bribe everyone to take the new system.
Synchronizing 100% personality models doesn’t sound simple. The problem is that the old outfits and layer wear are modeled to fit the older pso2 body. To be able to synchronize it, they would have to recreate from scratch (haha pun) 8 years of makeup. That is unlikely to occur. Well, I mean that I’d be ready to drop a certain proportion of those cosmetics to help keep things intact around versions. Provided that there’s a steady feed of cool new things to replace it, I don’t mind. I always rotate out my old appearances anyway. As long as the character versions translate 1:1 it’ll still feel like mine.
I’d imagine a large complication to that involves a lot of the cosmetics from the Western side of things which were exclusive to collaborations, promotional events, and events which no longer exist. The instance I can think of is the Monster Hunter Frontier Z collaboration where I can imagine the clothes and weapons could unquestionably be provided a visual update together with everything else but that I don’t exactly know how the licensing or how the legal side of this cooperation functions where I would wish it was as easy as Sega going through and updating the assets but I don’t understand about how much of Capcom is involved in that procedure.
The same applies to collaborations such as the Final Fantasy XIV collaboration with Odin (which still exists as far as I know) where I do not understand just how much Square Enix is involved that for Sega to be able to upgrade assets there. If it was purely just Phantasy Star-related items (like character outfits, cameos from other games, or alternative Sega-related possessions ) I could imagine that this likely would have been achieved, or at least would be carried out. But in cheap meseta pso2 the Global version we already don’t have the presence of Cougar NX so I don’t exactly know if there are other complications regarding Sega’s properties which may also contribute not to updating everything they could within reason.
